Terms of Use

Last updated: September 6, 2026

By downloading or using Scatterbox (“the App”), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the App.

1. Description of service

Scatterbox is a single-player deduction puzzle in the tradition of the pencil-and-paper game Black Box: hidden atoms sit in a grid, you fire beams from the edges, and you deduce their positions from how the beams behave. It runs entirely on your device.

2. Advertising and the “Remove Ads” purchase

The App is free to play and, by default, shows advertisements. You may buy “Remove Ads,” a one-time purchase that permanently removes all advertising from the App on your Apple ID. It is not a subscription and does not renew. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. Purchases and any refunds are handled by Apple; we cannot process them directly.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the App to violate any law, or to attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or extract data from it beyond normal use.

4. Your data

Your game progress and settings are stored locally on your device. We don’t have access to them and aren’t responsible for data loss from deleting the App, replacing your device, or similar events.

5. Disclaimer of warranties

The App is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind. We don’t guarantee uninterrupted access or that the App is error-free.

6. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we aren’t liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the App.

7. Black Box heritage

Scatterbox is an independent game inspired by Black Box, a puzzle designed by Eric Solomon and first published in 1976. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the designers or publishers of the original game.

8. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated Terms.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
